Tom Hoekelman grew up in Ohio and Indiana and then earned an engineering degree from Cornell University and a master’s degree from the University of Chicago. After a career in business, technology and venture capital management, he took up painting in 2000. He began with courses at the Denver Art Museum and then continued his studies with Chuck Ceraso, Mark Nelson, Molly Davis, and at the Art Students League in Denver.
From 2003 through 2008, he organized painting workshops in Taos, New Mexico. At the same time he was a partner in two art galleries in Denver, Colorado. In 2010 he was a founding stakeholder in the Taos Art Group, which opened the Blumenschein Studio Gallery in Taos.
He creates impressionistic and expressionistic landscapes in oils and is exploring new subject matter and media, particularly abstract architecture.
