Course Description: Mark Nelson paints landscapes and urban scenes in oils. He draws upon his background in illustration and graphic design as well as his classical studies in painting and sculpture. After graduating with Best Portfolio honors from the Colorado Institute of Art, Mark worked as an illustrator with a number of notable clients before beginning his painting career focusing on landscapes and figurative subjects. He has since shifted his artistic focus to painting abstract geometric forms in pursuit of what terms “a contemporary sublime”. His work has been placed in a number of prominent regional collections and has been displayed at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver and at the prestigious Salon d’Art Exhibit. He has been featured in a number of articles in Southwest Art Magazine and is represented by Gallery 1261 in Denver.
Mark will work with workshop participants to develop their individual styles and take their work to new levels by building upon their artistic strengths. Students will be encouraged to engage their creative spirits and gain confidence in their work by engaging their unique inspirations. They will be encouraged to rethink their assumptions about art and beauty and ultimately find a personal voice in their art. Class sessions will include field work, studio time, lectures and demonstrations.
