WORKSHOP INFORMATION
Title: Painting New Mexico: Adobe, Chimisa and Lavender
Instructor: Peggy McGivern
Course Description: Peggy McGivern has over twenty five years of experience as an artist and a gallery owner. She is represented by galleries in Colorado and New Mexico and has painted throughout the world. Southwest Art recently featured her in an article.

Peggy will use the new book (Finding Your Visual Voice) that she helped to write as a visual guide for her classes.  She will start each day with a demo and discussion of the things on which the class wishes to focus.

The proposed agenda for the classes is varied and extremely interesting.

On one day, we will take a picnic lunch and head to the Chama Valley and Abiquiu where Georgia O’Keefe painted many of her most famous works.  We will sketch and take photos for later development.  The lavender fields will be in bloom and will be one of the subjects upon which we focus.

On other mornings we will paint Taos landscapes and adobe scenes in town en plein air.

On Friday afternoon, we will join local Taos artists for their Plein Air Friday Afternoon painting session either in Fechin’s historic studio or in the gardens of the Geronimo Inn.  This will involve the availability of a model in costume.

We will work in the ArtWORK West studio to develop the work from these sessions.

On Sunday morning, we will hold an informal breakfast and have a friendly critique and discussion.

Note: For anyone interested, Peggy will show the techniques she uses in working with water mixable oils.  She has developed a number of tricks that make them flow like traditional oils.
